Is It Time for a Board of Review?

If you have

  • completed and been signed off for all of the main requirements for the rank,
  • turned in all blue cards necessary for the rank,
  • completed and been signed off for a Scoutmaster conference for the rank

Then it's time to schedule a Board of Review!!

Flyer: Boards of Review for Rank Advancement (Word Document, Acrobat-pdf file)

If you are working on:

  • Tenderfoot
  • 2nd Class
  • 1st Class

Then do this:

  • Contact the Board of Review Coordinator.
  • The coordinator will help you schedule a Board of Review, contact additional Board of Review members to sit on your Board, and set the time and date for your Board of Review

If you are working on:

  • Star
  • Life
  • Eagle Palm

Then do this:

  • Schedule your own Board
  • Contact at least three (3) parents for the Board of Review from people on the Troop Roster listed as "Board of Review"
  • Set the date, time and place when all Board members can meet.
  • If the Board of Review Coordinator is not part of your Board of Review, have the person who leads you review notify the coordinator after your review is completed because the coordinator keeps track of all advancements.
  • Any Scout who seeks advancement to Star, Life, or seeks an Eagle Palm is responsible for obtaining an advancement form, which can be obtained from the Board of Review Coordinator or the Troop Documents File Boxes which are displayed on Monday at the Troop Meetings.

This is a triplicate form that looks like this:

Reminder:

All Scouts -- no exceptions -- who appear before a Board of Review must:

  • Be in full (Class-A) uniform
  • Have their Scout Book in hand
  • Have read the chapter in the Scout Book that covers the rank sought.
    • For example, if a Scout seeks a Board of Review for 1st Class, the Scout should be familiar with the chapter in the Scout Handbook that discusses the rank of 1st class etc.

Remember the Scout Motto:  Be Prepared!
