100th anniversary of World Scouting
As you
know, the 100th Anniversary of World Scouting is being celebrated
this year with a focal point on Wednesday on August 1st. 216
Countries throughout the world are celebrating the Centennial and
commemorating Baden-Powell’s first Boy Scout troop the world has ever known!
The Los Angeles Area Council
Centennial Committee (in our neighboring
council) has been working very hard to create a local program,
coordinate with other National and International programs, and honor this
historic event. They developed a
patch and rocker program for Scouts to earn as they complete various steps in
the internationally-themed programs. The
final stages of production for the August 1st Sunrise event
are now complete. (All Scouts IN THE WORLD are asked to join together -
wherever they are - on August 1 at 8 a.m. local time to repeat the Scout
promise together.
Our neighbor council (Los Angeles Area Council) has extended an invitation to all scouts to join them at Universal Studio for the Sunrise of Scouting’s Second Century. This is not a fundraiser. In fact LAAC has subsidized the fee they are charging by $10 to make the cost reasonable. Secondly, they have a contract for 1,000 paid participants. The fee covers a day pass to Universal Studios, continental breakfast and our Sunrise event held at the Fear Factor Stage. Finally, you are encouraged to promote this exciting once-in-a-lifetime event as a Southern California Scouting event. Help us reach your youth. You can use the attached materials to print or disperse electronically to your Units. Time is short. - there's a deadline of July 20 for registration. RSVP directly to LAAC . Advanced reservations are critical so that they can plan accurately project the attendance, plan for food, control distribution of the special BSA admission passes and parking.
