WLACC Sailing Symposium
35th Annual Sailing Symposium

The San Fernando Valley Yacht Club and the
Western Los Angeles County Council invites all Venturing Scouts, Varsity Team
members, Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and Explorers between the ages of 14-20 to the
35th Annual Sailing Symposium at the Pardee Scout Sea Base in Marina del Rey on
Saturday, October 11, 2003
No previous sailing experience is
required, only a willingness to participate and learn. All crews,
teams, troops, ships and posts of the Western Los Angeles County Council are
encouraged to save the date and partake in this annual event.
Program Highlights:
-
One morning of on-the water sailing instruction with yachts and
instructors provided by the San Fernando Valley Yacht Club and the Western Los
Angeles County Council.

One afternoon of around the buoys racing on the Santa Monica Bay
with commemorative plaques for participants of the winning yachts.
-
Saturday evening complimentary barbecue and awards ceremony in
beautiful Burton Chase Park.
-
The opportunity to meet, interact with and learn the sport of
sailing with fellow participants and the members of the San Fernando Valley
Yacht Club.
Reservations, Fees, Deadlines:
-
Advanced reservations are required. To save money and
avoid disappointment due to overbooking, early registration is encouraged.

All attending youth and adult leaders must be listed on the
attached registration form
-
The Van Nuys Council office must receive the completed form
along with the fees no later than Monday, September 29, 2003 at 5:00pm.
-
Registration fees before Sept 22nd at 5:00pm are as follows:
$17.50/Youth and $5.00/Adult leader.
-
Registration fees received after Sept. 22nd are as follows:
$20.00/Youth and $7.50/Adult leader.
-
Youth will be assigned to yachts in the order the payment is
received.
-
Registration fees are transferable, but NOT refundable.
Requirements
-
All participants must be registered with the Boy Scouts of
America.

All participants must be at least 14 years of age as of October
11, 2003.

All participants must check-in at the Pardee Scout Sea Base in
Marina del Rey by 8:50am on Saturday, October 11, 2003.

Barring unforeseen circumstances or emergencies, all youth are
expected to participate in both morning and afternoon activities. Morning
only or afternoon only participants cannot be accommodated.

Youth and adult leaders must wear closed-toed, rubber-soled
shoes while at the Sea Base and/or aboard any yacht.

As wind and sea conditions are unpredictable, it is highly
recommended to wear clothing, which will not be damaged by seawater. A
change of clothes, a wind-resistant jacket and sunscreen are recommended for
each person.

If applicable, anti-motion sickness pills (like Dramamine or
Marazine) should be considered and brought along.
Directions to the Sea Base
Parking
-
As parking in and around the Pardee Scout Sea Base is limited,
carpooling is highly recommended. Free parking off of Fiji Way southwest
of Mast-Up storage lot. Fee parking is available in Lot 4 adjacent to the
launching ramp off of Mindanao Way. This lot is walking distance to the
Sea Base. Bring $2.00 in bills and quarters. Metered parking in
front of the Sea Base is available for the price of $2.00 per hour maximum two
hours. So, bring your quarters.
