Why Troop 22 Uses Binders

Troop 22 uses binders to pass information along from year to year and from person to person.  When a Scout joins the troop he receives a Scout Binder and his parents receive a Parent Binder.  For each of our Adult Volunteer Jobs we have binders and for each of our Scout jobs (Patrol Leader etc.) we have binders.  It is so much easier for a volunteer to see exactly what the previous volunteer has done for a specific job -- the binders allow this to happen.  The binders hold the troop legacy for the particular job.

In September when new Scout leadership positions are decided it is a good idea to collect the job binder from the retiring Scouts, review the contents, spiff up the binder (its probably trashed), and then present it to the incoming Scout.  Similarly as Adult Volunteer jobs are handed off from one leader to another it is a good idea to collect the binder, review the contents, update this website as needed, spiff up the binder and then present it to the next volunteer.  Adult Volunteer jobs seem to change at random times throughout the year even though official recruiting is at the May Court of Honor for the following year.

For some strange reason, every so often, one of these binders becomes missing...  At that point the troop has lost its wisdom about that job (not good).  So to combat that problem we try to keep as much of the content of each of these binders online here as we can.  We will not keep sensitive information with names or contact information on this website as it is public.  The hope is that if we lose a binder we can rebuild it from the files included here.  This way everyone knows where these files are and they are not hiding on someone's computer or on the bottom of someone's to-do pile!  An additional benefit of this is that other people can peek at the binder contents if they are interested in what a certain job entails or how it relates to their job or just to be nosey.
